The Medical Assisting program is a great way to gain access to a career in the healthcare profession. Medical Assistants are multi-skilled health professionals specifically educated to work in ambulatory settings performing administrative and clinical duties. The practice of medical assisting directly influences the public’s health and well-being, and it requires mastery of a complex body of knowledge and specialized skills requiring both formal education and practical experience that serve as standards for entry into the profession. The curriculum guides students in performing administrative, clinical and laboratory procedures for employment in a physician’s office, clinic or hospital.
Students are eligible to take the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) examination offered through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) and the Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) exam offered through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) which is included in tuition costs. Portage Lakes Career Center Medical Assisting Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (www.caahep.org) upon the recommendation of Medical Assisting Education Review Board (MAERB).
