Diversified Medical Insurance Billing and Coding Technician

Obtain your CBCS Certification and earn 30 Technical Credits toward the Associate of Technical Studies (ATS) at The University of Akron.

This program is designed for those who wish to gain employment in medical billing, coding and health information management.  Employment opportunities include physician practices, outpatient clinics and billing companies, as well as a variety of medical facilities.

Students will develop a thorough knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, diseases and conditions, electronic health records, practice management software, medical office administration practices, diagnostic and procedural coding, billing, reimbursement and claim form procedures, healthcare law and ethics. Graduates will be prepared for entry-level positions as medical administrative assistants, electronic health records specialists, and medical billing and coding specialists. Students will complete a 160 hour externship during daytime working hours during the last six weeks of the program. Students are eligible to take the Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS) examination offered through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). Class size limited to 20 students.
