Position: Route Sales and Service
Koorsen Fire & Security, one of the nation’s largest privately held fire & security services companies, is in search of a qualified/trainable Route Sales & Service Technician in Columbus, IN. It is preferred that candidates have a strong and proven background in route sales and service & business development but will train an individual that meets pre-qualification standards to include: excellent communications skills, a sales and mechanical aptitude, charismatic attitude, and must possess excellent customer service skills.

Primarily a route sales and service position responsible for sale, inspection, service, and installation of restaurant kitchen fire suppression systems (Restaurant Hood Systems), and General Products including Fire Extinguishers and Exit Light systems.
Restaurant Hood & Fire Suppression Systems Inspection, Service, Installation & Sales
Shut off Electric / Gas power to Restaurant appliances
Check Hood Fire Suppression System nozzle position, type, & flow points
Remove Cylinders, carrying suppression cylinders up and down ladders for installation, inspection, & service
Check/test for proper suppression system operation via pull station or testing links
Check inside of cylinder tanks for corrosion
Check and replace fusible links within suppression system
Check piping/conduit runs and correct problems when needed
Clean Hood Fire Suppression System nozzles and the supply line pipe
Check cartridge for proper weight
Apply updated inspection tags
Perform installation of new restaurant hood fire suppression systems per NFPA guidelines
Install new Fire Suppression System components as needed
Document Deficiencies and recommendations made to customer
Follow all current NFPA guidelines along with federal and state regulations
Fire Extinguisher & Hose Inspection, Service, Installation and Sales
Know and follow current NFPA codes to perform accurate and efficient inspections
Inspect Fire Extinguishers and make sure they are up to code & update tags (Check pressure, powder levels, inspection dates, extinguisher pin, powder in hose, potential discharge, leaks, installed properly, etc.)
Take Extinguishers & Cylinders to Koorsen branch for Hydro Testing when required
Remove Extinguishers & Cylinders safely and take them to Koorsen branch for Hydro testing when required
Service Fire Extinguishers, adding correct powder amount, pressure, labels &collars, etc.
Install Fire Extinguishers properly
Sell new Fire Extinguishers to customer when needed
Perform visual inspection of Fire Hose station
Check Fire Hose hydro dates, placement of hose, and perform service when needed
Update extinguisher and fire hose station tags after inspection and/or sale
Exit Light Inspection, Service, Installation and Sales
Make sure electrical breaker is “off”, and power to Exit Lights has been cut – Lock out & Tag out (LOTO) the breaker
Perform visual inspection of Exit Lights and evaluate condition
Test Exit Light batteries and replace as needed
Check Exit Light bulbs and replace as needed
Perform installation of Exit Lights – The installation of the new fixtures must be performed by a qualified individual and Local or State requirements shall be followed. The power shall be shut off by the customer and the Koorsen Fire & Security shall Lockout & Tag out (LOTO) the breaker before performing the installation. *The Koorsen Fire & Security associate is not permitted to perform installations on energized equipment
Sell new Exit Light systems, replacement bulbs, and replacement batteries to customer
Make sure that all Exit Lights on site have been properly evaluated and are up to code
Sales/ Service Route Scheduling, Preparation, Sales and Development
Perform effective sales calls and “cold calls”, visiting businesses to generate new sales & service leads
Arrive at all customer sites on time
Follow up on new sales leads and potential customers to generate new revenue
Contact customers to schedule convenient & efficient service dates & times
Map out route to assure mileage, fuel, time, and service efficiency
Assure that all monthly route work orders are completed in a timely manner
Maintain proper stock on vehicle to service route efficiently and effectively
Sell additional add-on products and services to customers when needed
Document Deficiencies and recommendations made to customer
Provide customer with accurate sales and service quotes/pricing
Communicate in a professional manner with all customer representatives
Make sure customers are 100% satisfied with the service that has been provided
Complete paperwork in a legible and professional manner, filling paperwork out in its entirety.
Assure that all necessary tools are maintained on vehicle
Drive company vehicle to job site in a safe and professional manner
Follow all traffic laws along with guidelines as outlined in Koorsen Driving Policy
Wash truck when necessary and keep inside of truck clean and organized
Report damaged/broken truck equipment to management and assure repair is done
Follow Koorsen Policies and Procedures
Complete all duties as assigned by management in a timely manner
Knowledge, Education, Licensing, and Experience Requirements
High School Diploma or equivalent is required
Must be well versed in the safe use of general hand tools and power tools
Must have or be able & willing to attain State Fire Extinguisher License if required
Active Driver License, in good standing required
Must meet safe driving policy criteria to be an active company vehicle driver
Prior Restaurant Fire Systems and Portables/GP experience is preferred
Prior sales experience, with emphasis on route sales & route development, is highly preferred

Must be able to understand and interpret codes and standards.
Physical Requirements & Exposures:
Must be able to lift a minimum of 75 pounds
Must be able to carry 75 pounds repeatedly
Must be able to push greater than 100 pounds as needed
Must be able to pull greater than 100 pounds as needed
Must be able to safely climb a ladder and reach a height of at least 12 ft.
Constant (5-8hrs/shift) standing, walking, handling items, and eye/hand/foot coordination
Frequently (2-5hrs/shift) lifting, carrying, repetitive motions, noise exposure, grasping items
Occasionally (up to 2hrs/shift) sitting, pushing, pulling, climbing, stooping, balancing, reaching, crouching, exposure to weather
This position may require the handling of chemicals that may be skin and/or respiratory irritants. Person may also be exposed to ventilation areas which may have respiratory irritant. Must not be skin and respiratory sensitive to these materials and environments. MSDS are available.
