POSITION DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Instrument / Electrical Technician (I&E)
Business Unit: Performance Chemicals Location: Mogadore Department: Maintenance

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Instrument / Electrical Technician is responsible, to maintain safety and operational readiness of site facilities through
planned, preventive and emergent maintenance, with a primary emphasis directed towards preventative maintenance on
process equipment and facility systems including instrumental and electrical systems. The role requires working in a
multi-craft, team-based approach with Mechanical Journeyman, Engineers and Operations Management, and any other
relevant cross-functional team. Required to work overtime as needed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
 Follow safe work practices and support safety goals and objectives.
 Routinely perform lock-out, tag-out and disconnection of electrical equipment for maintenance activities.
 Emergency repairs as needed of equipment at times with minimal supervision based on shift assignments.
 Calibrate, document, troubleshoot, and repair/replace instrumentation for systems that measure and control level,
temperature, pressure, flow, and other process variables.
 Perform functional tests on critical safety systems (e.g. sensors, alarms, and interlocks) maintain equipment and
documentation per PSM requirements.
 Perform functional test on quality control systems and maintain equipment and documentation per ISO standards.
 Troubleshoot process control loops and process control systems, including computer based DCS.
 Read and redline P&IDs, electrical drawings, etc.
 Electrical power systems involving AC voltages up to 480V.
 Process control instrumentation, working with transmitters, valves, electrical actuation, pneumatic actuation and
switches.
 Running conduit from ½” to 3”, pulling wire, run cable tray, install electrical panel and junction box, running instrument
tubing ¼” to 1”.
 Variable Frequency Drives and Soft Starters for low- and medium-voltage equipment. Configure and troubleshoot
using local interface and communication software.
 Programmable Logic Controllers, including communication software; perform programming tasks as assigned
 Safely use tools appropriate to a given task (voltage-rated and standard hand tools; power tools; electrical testing and
monitoring equipment); assure quality of work through use of precision calibration equipment and procedures.
 Safely use material-handling and mobile equipment as required (chain falls, chokers, forklifts, scissor lifts mobile and
house cranes).
 Estimate required tools and materials for assigned tasks; communicate requirements to ensure parts, supplies, etc.
are on hand for task.
 Take direction from work order system and complete work, including all required paperwork/data entry.
 Familiar with SAP and functions around recording maintenance and reliability actions taken to repaired equipment.
 Conduct thorough shift change, including updates on work order status to affected personnel.
 Provide training to other technicians in areas of expertise.
 Perform assigned housekeeping responsibilities associated with maintenance activities.
 Actively participate in safety programs; comply with all safety regulations
 Undertake multi-craft tasks as assigned to the classification.
 Familiar with machinery repair and installation in accordance with classification.
 Familiar with troubleshoot and repair of steam system controls.
 Familiar with 480V Pump/Motor installation requirements per the electrical requirements.
 Participate on the Emergency Response Team.
 Maintains and improves preventative/predictive maintenance programs.
 Motivated to learn new tasks, new concepts, new applications, etc.
 Support compliance efforts – RCMS, ISO, PSM, OSHA, etc.
 Manage time to effectively perform multiple job tasks safety and accurately.
 Work with front line Supervisors and inform of any problems as they arise.
 Must have good written and oral communication skills to Communicate with various levels of individuals throughout
the organization.
 Complete logs and other required paperwork.
 Attend meetings and training as required.
 Must be able to work overtime as needed.
 Must be able to work various shifts, including off shift or swing shift as required.
 Follow all EHS policies and procedures.
 Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in the areas of Safety, Quality, Cost, and Production.
 Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
 Technical degree or Journeymen’s card required.
 3-5 years’ experience in maintenance manufacturing environment preferably in a chemical / production facility
 3-5 years’ instrumentation / electrical experience in a manufacturing environment with emphasis on experience in
pneumatic, mechanical, and electronic instrumentation with controls
 Capable of working in a high paced environment
 Able to lift and/or carry up to fifty (50) pounds.
 Working knowledge of computer applications (Word, Excel, E-Mail)
 Motivated to learn new tasks, new concepts, new applications, etc.
 Ability to work at heights and walk on grating.
 Work in various climates (indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions).
 Stand and walk throughout assigned shift.
 Must be able to wear a respirator and other required PPE.
 Must be able to meet physical requirements of position.

SKILLS:
 Experience working in a HPWP.
 Familiar with ISO-9001 and Process Safety Management.
 Steam system experience preferable.
 ISA Certified Control Systems Technician
 Previous experience in a Chemical Manufacturing Environment.
 Ability to operate computer.
 Ability to operate variety of hand and power tools.
