General Admission Information About PLCC Adult Career Center

Students are encouraged to enroll in any class regardless of age or gender. Training in nontraditional careers is strongly encouraged.

Learn more about how to enroll at PLCC.

Effective May 8, 2020, Portage Lakes Career Center will be operating under a test-optional admissions policy for the following programs: Cosmetology, Spa Technician, Esthetics, Nail Technician, EKG and Phlebotomy Technician, Automotive Technician, HVAC-R Technician, Welding Technology, and Plumbing Technologies. PLEASE NOTE: This test-optional policy DOES NOT APPLY to Practical Nursing. Students applying for entrance into that program MUST test.

With the ACT WorkKeys Assessment currently unavailable, PLCC feels that students should still be given the opportunity to secure enrollment for the upcoming school year and has, therefore, modified its admissions requirements to a test-optional policy. Students looking to enroll in the above-listed programs can now opt to submit an official high school or GED transcript to be reviewed. Team members will grant student placement only after evaluating the transcript and determining that it meets all criteria for admission. Students who still wish to test in order to be considered for program enrollment may do so once testing and normal operations resume.

  1. Students must provide the following at the time of registration:
  2. Completed application form
  3. Official high school transcript or GED. $100 deposit to reserve a seat in the class. The deposit includes the WorkKeys assessment. Each retest required to pass any section of the WorkKeys test will be an additional $20.

All programs require a background check and/or drug testing.

If the student does not meet program requirements, does not successfully complete each portion of the WorkKeys test, or if the class is not offered, $60 of the original $100 deposit will be refunded. Passage of WorkKeys test at program required level.

Auto Tech students must provide a copy of their driver’s license and proof of insurance. All Health & Medical Occupation students will be required to have a criminal background check, drug screen, medical clearance from a physician, and provide proof of vaccination documentation.
