  • Hair styling and design
  • Chemical treatments (highlights, lowlights, balayage, shadow roots, perms, and relaxers)
  • Basic skin care
  • Hard-gel, acrylic, and dip powder manicures and pedicures
  • Makeup application

You’ll also use professional salon products from Kenra®, Redken, Joico, Pevonia®, OPI®, Gelish, Young Nails, Backscratchers® Salon Systems, and more.

Beautician school students in this 1,500-hour cosmetology program gain real-world experience through labs, potential industry internships, and PLCC’s well-appointed salon that’s open to the public three days a week.

Test-optional Admissions Policy Statement

Effective May 8, 2020, Portage Lakes Career Center will be operating under a test-optional admissions policy* for the following programs: Cosmetology, Dual Esthetician & Nail Tech, Esthetician, Nail Technician, EKG and Phlebotomy Technician, Automotive Technician, HVAC-R Technician, Welding Technology, Manufacturing Technologies and Plumbing Technologies.

With the ACT WorkKeys Assessment currently unavailable, PLCC feels that students should still be given the opportunity to secure enrollment for the upcoming school year and has, therefore, modified its admissions requirements to a test-optional policy.

Students looking to enroll in the above-listed programs can now opt to submit an official high school or GED transcript to be reviewed. Team members will grant student placement only after evaluating the transcript and determining that it meets all criteria for admission. Students who still wish to test in order to be considered for program enrollment may do so once testing and normal operations resume.

*PLEASE NOTE: This test-optional policy DOES NOT APPLY to the Practical Nursing program. Students hoping to enroll in that program MUST test.
