A rewarding career in the beauty industry starts at Portage Lakes Career Center (PLCC), a school located in Uniontown, Ohio, that’s fully accredited by the Commission of the Council on Occupational Education (COE). Master all the skills you need in less than 10 months to successfully take the Ohio State Cosmetology and Barber Board exam.
Our cosmetology school is led by certified instructors who are licensed cosmetologists with years of experience in their field. You will learn through interactive demonstrations and hands-on training about the art and science of hair, skin, and nails such as:
You’ll also use professional salon products from Kenra®, Redken, Joico, Pevonia®, OPI®, Gelish, Young Nails, Backscratchers® Salon Systems, and more.
Beautician school students in this 1,500-hour cosmetology program gain real-world experience through labs, potential industry internships, and PLCC’s well-appointed salon that’s open to the public two days a week.
In addition, licensed cosmetologists are eligible to take classes for additional certifications in body treatments, hair extensions, thermal strengtheners, and artificial nails.

Students looking to enroll in the above-listed program must submit an official high school or GED transcript to be reviewed. Team members will grant student placement only after evaluating the transcript and determining that it meets all criteria for admission.

Pay for cosmetologists in Ohio varies widely. Pay structure can include hourly wages, a salary, a salary plus commission, and commission-based income. Those who rent a booth at a salon have even more control over their income. What you earn as a cosmetologist depends greatly on experience, knowledge, education, and what you put into it. This industry is about the relationships you make with your clients.
Licensed cosmetologists have job opportunities in many areas of the beauty industry, including salon or spa manager or owner, salon development partner, makeup artist, nail technician, esthetician, wedding and event stylist, and cosmetology instructor. Plus, stylists for film, theater, celebrities, advertising, and fashion shows all started out in cosmetology school.
Beauty school tuition in Ohio varies and is set by each school. At PLCC, a not-for-profit Ohio Career-Technical School located in Uniontown, we offer an all-inclusive tuition of $16,995, which is at least $2,000 less than the average cost of tuition, fees, and supplies at for-profit beauty schools across the United States.
Students must successfully complete 1,500 hours of training in Ohio to be eligible to take the licensure exam from the Ohio State Cosmetology and Barber Board, through which PLCC’s cosmetology training school is accredited.
