Students also complete clinical experiences at various health-care facilities throughout the Akron-Canton regional area.
At Portage Lakes Career Center, we take the guesswork out of planning and budgeting for an LPN school. With no hidden fees of any kind, you can be confident there will be no surprises in the cost of your education. In addition to instruction, books, uniforms, and graduation supplies, tuition for qualifying students covers the NCLEX-PN (National Council of State Board of Nursing Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses), application for the Ohio Board of Nursing, and NCLEX test prep. For more information, call 330.896.8102 to speak with an admissions counselor.
Students of all ages and backgrounds choose the practical nursing program at Portage Lakes Career Center. Allow us to be your entryway into professional nursing. Class sizes are limited.
Other program benefits: graduates of the Portage Lakes Career Center practical nursing program earn 30 technical credits toward an associate’s degree of technical studies from the University of Akron.
Students looking to enroll in the above-listed program must submit an official high school or GED transcript to be reviewed. Team members will grant student placement only after evaluating the transcript and determining that it meets all criteria for admission.

The average annual salary of a licensed practical nurse (LPN) in Ohio is $43,678 (December 2019).
LPNs usually provide nursing care in hospitals, long-term care or rehabilitation facilities, home care settings, physician offices, and outpatient clinics. In Ohio, LPN nursing care is delivered at the direction of a registered nurse or any of the following authorized to practice in this state: a physician, physician assistant, dentist, podiatrist, optometrist, or chiropractor. Our Practical Nursing graduates often secure employment at Aultman Hospital, Summa Health System, Akron Children’s Hospital, and University Hospitals.
Enrollment in our practical nursing program is limited to 50 students.
