Portage Lakes Career Center Signing Day Will Celebrate Student Paths Beyond High School
National Signing Day is a major occasion for high school students across America. This tradition typically marks the day that many athletes receive recognition for achieving their goal of being accepted into the college of their choice.
At Portage Lakes Career Center, we believe that athletes aren’t the only ones who deserve to have their hard work recognized. We are excited to announce that on May 8, 2019, PLCC will hold its First Annual Signing Day event from 12 -2 pm!
On Signing Day, seniors of PLCC’s Career and Technical Education programs will be publicly recognized & celebrated for their decisions to pursue one of the three E’s after graduation – Enrolled in college, Employed in a career field, or Enlisted in the military. Students will have the opportunity to be seated behind a table in front of parents, teachers, peers, employers, college reps, military reps, and media to sign their Letters of Intent.
The idea behind this new take on ‘Signing Day’ is to recognize students who choose to maximize their high school opportunities for career training and industry certifications. “Preparing our students for enrollment, enlistment or employment is our district’s most fundamental responsibility,” said PLCC Superintendent Kim Redmond. “Our students work so hard to gain the competitive edge that they will need to be a part of the workforce of tomorrow. They are doing great things here and deserve a special celebration.”
Michael Munoz, VP of Youth Football and Character Development at the Pro Football HOF, will serve as the event guest speaker. During Signing Day, participating students will announce their intentions, sign a letter of intent and each student will receive a special certificate and t-shirt.
