In November of 2023, Portage Lakes Career Center received substantial state funding to introduce and enhance Career Technical Education (CTE) programs in dental assisting, phlebotomy, and welding. With a $6,536,703 award from the state operating budget, complemented by an additional $1,983,454 from the school district, PLCC will begin construct of a cutting-edge 16,280 square foot Dental Assisting program, launch a high school phlebotomy initiative, and update & renovate its welding training lab. In addition to benefiting students and the local workforce, underscoring PLCC’s dedication to delivering high-quality, pertinent education that meets regional needs, this initiative stands as a significant investment in the future of both students and local communities.
Collaborating with FDM Architects, Inc., and Shook Construction, PLCC anticipates breaking ground on these transformative facilities as early as February 2024. The comprehensive programs in dental assisting and phlebotomy are strategically designed to address the increasing local workforce demands, while the state-of-the-art welding lab aims to equip students with the latest skills required in the competitive job market. PLCC expresses gratitude to Governor DeWine and the state legislature for their investment in CTE and workforce readiness, emphasizing the profound impact these programs will have on both students and local communities.
