DESCRIPTION

Position Summary:
The Auto Technician position is a hands-on role responsible for performing technical automotive repairs at the Hope on Wheels Auto Clinic. This role is essential in supporting the safe and effective operation of the auto clinic, ensuring quality service and well-maintained environments for clients and staff. The individual in this role must be mission-driven and committed to the values of Hope Town.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Mechanical and Maintenance Work:
a. Perform diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on Hope on Wheels’ fleet vehicles and customer vehicles to manufacture and safety standards.
b. Perform scheduled vehicle servicing and maintain detailed service records.
c. Update vehicle service records and maintain a database of spare parts, inventory and purchase receipts.
d. Perform minor property repairs, routine maintenance, and custodial tasks to ensure safe and functional facilities as needed.
e. Assist in the upkeep of outdoor spaces, including landscaping, snow removal, and groundskeeping as needed.
f. Ensure compliance with safety standards in all repair and maintenance activities.
g. Provide timely updates on work progress and completed tasks.
h. Maintain clear and professional communication with team members and leadership.
i. Responsible for one’s best use of time management during work hours.
j. Perform comprehensive detailing services, including washing, waxing, and vacuuming vehicles to ensure they meet high cleanliness standards.
k. Real time communication and follow up with team members.
l. Maintain accurate inventory records, ensuring proper management and storage of tools and equipment.
m. Drive occasionally as emergency backup for Hope on Wheels transportation services, ensuring timely and safe client transport.
n. Maintain professional relationships with staff, clients, and service vendors.
o. Be available for limited night and weekend work as needed to accomplish responsibilities.
p. Undertake other duties as delegated by the Auto Clinic Manager and/or Program Director.

 

 

Qualifications:
• Technical Expertise:

o Proven experience as an automotive technician or mechanic, with ASE Certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).
o Strong understanding of vehicle diagnostics, repair, tools, and property maintenance procedures.

 

• Organizational Skills:
o Excellent time management, problem-solving, and communication skills.

 

• Additional Skills:
o Competency in working with computer systems and administrative software (e.g., Microsoft Office).
o Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

 

• Physical Requirements:
o Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and remain in a stationary position for extended periods.
o Comfortable working in a garage environment and exposed to weather elements.

 

Employment Details:
• Type: Part- Time, Non-Exempt (with potential for full-time status and health benefits).
• Compensation: Competitive hourly rate, commensurate with experience.
