The estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for heavy civil construction projects including highways, bridges, earthwork, utilities, site development and infrastructure improvements. This role analyzes plans, specifications, and contract documents to determine labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractor costs required to complete a project. The estimator works closely with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers to develop competitive bids and support successful project execution. Responsibilities include: • Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and bid documents. • Perform quantity takeoffs for earthwork, utilities, structures, paving, drainage, and other heavy civil work. • Develop detailed cost estimates including labor, equipment, materials, subcontractors, and production rates. • Prepare bid packages and compile final project estimates. • Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations. • Analyze bid risks, site conditions, logistics, and project constraints. • Prepare and submit competitive bid proposals and supporting documentation. • Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits when required. • Develop unit pricing and production rate assumptions. • Analyze historical cost data and project performance. • Coordinate with subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers to obtain accurate pricing. • Assist with handoff meetings between estimating and project management teams after project award. • Maintain organized estimate files, bid records, and cost databases. • Track bid results and analyze variances between estimated and actual project costs.
