The Canton Fire Department is currently hiring Firefighter/Paramedics!
General Statement of Duties: This is an entry-level position under the close supervision of Fire Department Officers. An employee in this class serves as a member of the Fire Division for the protection of life and property by acting at fires and other emergencies. Firefighters/Paramedics shall be capable of performing a wide variety of skilled manual and mechanical techniques; also, basic and advanced life support techniques. He/she shall assist in the maintenance of fire stations, apparatus, and equipment, and learn and obey the rules and regulations of the Division of Fire. He/she shall perform other related duties as required.
Department Information: The Canton Fire Department is active in the many facets of fire suppression and medical assistance, and is progressive in seeking the latest technology and training to complete its mission of service to the Hall of Fame City and surrounding areas. Opportunities within the department include Firefighting Operations, Paramedic Operations, Engineer, Fire Prevention Bureau, K-9 Operations, Training Bureau, Technical Rescue Operations Team, Water Rescue Team, HAZMAT Team, SWAT Medic, and Public Education. Fill out an application on governmentjobs.com. Upload a copy of your driver’s license, high school transcripts, DD-214 (if applicable), college degree (if applicable), applicable bonus certifications (Firefighter, EMT, and/or Paramedic certificates; Canton Explorers Program certificate), and any other supporting documentation BEFORE officially submitting your application. If you do not submit all required documentation WITH your application, you may be disqualified from further consideration.
The Canton Civil Service staff will review your application. If you meet the minimum requirements and have all necessary documentation uploaded, you will be sent information about the Firefighter/Paramedic FireTEAM Exam conducted through the National Testing Network. We strongly suggest that you take this exam at a physical location if at all possible to reduce the potential for any technical difficulties. You must complete your NTN exam by April 2nd, 2023.
You MUST fill out the Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ) on your National Testing Network account. If you do not complete the PHQ by the time the testing window closes, you may be disqualified from further consideration.
Complete the Release of Information forms. The Civil Service Commission will send you release forms that will need to be signed in order to conduct background investigations. These forms will need to be printed, signed, scanned, and emailed back to the Civil Service office.
Age: 18 to 39 NO FIREFIGHTER/PARAMEDIC SHALL BE APPOINTED AFTER THEIR 40TH BIRTHDAY. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS. THIS AGE LIMIT WAS RECENTLY REVISED FROM 18 TO 34 PER CANTON CITY COUNCIL ORDINANCE.
Citizenship Required: You must be a citizen of the United States or have legally declared your intention of becoming a United States Citizen.
High School Grad/GED: You must be a high school graduate or possess a G.E.D.
Valid Driver’s License: You must possess a valid driver’s license issued by your state of residence.
Felony Conviction: An applicant who has been convicted of a felony is ineligible for this position.
