Lifeguard

Full-Time/Part-Time 

DESCRIPTION

The Opportunity to gain real-world experience. An AWESOME entry-level summer job – outdoors in the sun, meeting new people, while gaining leadership skills. Become a team member with the Professional Lifeguard Team at HastingsWaterWorks.com You can guard at your own neighborhood/apartment/condo/country club pool or a pool near you! We offer Lifeguard certification to anyone who’s a good swimmer! No experience is necessary.

Pay & Extras

-Up to $16.00/hour
-Another $1.00/hour with your end-of-season bonus
-$100 for each referral and an extra $100 for every third referral. ($400 for every three referrals)
-Paid training (excluding Lifeguard certification)

 

Lifeguard Duties

-Lifeguards will maintain surveillance while on duty and always remain rescue-ready
-Lifeguards must respond to all emergencies
-Responsible for assigned opening, daily, and closing duties
-Testing pool water chemistry every four hours and document readings as required

Lifeguard Training Prerequisites

Complete a swim-tread-swim sequence without stopping to rest:

  1. Jump into the water and totally submerge, resurface then swim 150 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke, and/or a combination of both. (Swimming on the back or side is not permitted. Swim goggles are allowed)
  2. Maintain position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes by treading water using only the legs (hands may be tucked into armpits or held out of the water)
  3. Swim 50 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both

Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds

  1. Start in the water, and swim 20 yards. (The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed).
  2. Surface dive (feet-first or head-first) to a depth of 7 – 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.
  3. Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point, holding the object at the surface with both hands and keeping the face out at or near the surface.
  4. Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.

Requirements
  • 16 years of age or older
  • Have a smartphone
