Jerry Patton

Meet the Teacher: Jerry Patton

Mr. Patton is a licensed pilot having earned his Private Pilot’s license soon after completing high school. After getting interested in airplanes, he entered the United States Air Force where he began his electrical career as an Avionics and Instrument Technician. It was at this time that he was also cross-trained as a Weather Specialist. After leaving the Air Force, Patton worked in the private industry as an electrician and continued to fly and work towards his FAA ground flight instructor’s license.
Mr. Patton began his teaching career at Portage Lakes Career Center in 2000 as the Electrical Technology instructor. During that time, he earned a Master’s degree in Career and Technical Education and is licensed to teach Electrical Trades and Aviation Occupations. He also earned an additional Master’s degree in Administration and is a licensed principal, grades 4-12.
Mr. Patton resides in North Canton with his wife of 30 years who is also a teacher. He has four grown children. Both of his sons serve in the military. His oldest son is a Captain in the U.S. Army Special Forces and his youngest son is a Lieutenant in the Air Force and an F-15 pilot.
Mr. Patton says he was hooked after the first flying lesson that he took. “Other than my family, I can’t think of a place that I can go and be totally immersed. So much is happening in the cockpit and it’s a different adventure each and every time I fly,” said Patton. He hopes to instill a passion of flight into his students so that they may someday experience not only private flying but flying as a career.
